It was nothing but darkness for a long time. Mickie didn’t feel anything at first, but it was a dull pain that pulled him out of unconsciousness, and then there was a blinding light when he opened his eyes.

Disoriented from the pain, Mickie floundered on the rocks where he’d fallen. He didn’t have the strength or coordination to stand, but as his eyes adjusted and he became more aware of his surroundings, he understood why.

His shirt was stained with blood, and he remembered how the gringo had shot him. He didn’t know how he was able to pull off that shot. He gently poked the wound, and then he winced. He forced himself to sit up, then checked the back, feeling a hole.

The bullet had gone straight through, which was good. He figured it had missed any vital arteries or organs, considering he was still alive, but he was still bleeding, and if he didn’t stop it soon, he wouldn’t be alive much longer.

Mickie tore off a piece of his shirt and used it as a makeshift bandage around his chest, looping it over his shoulder almost like a strap and then pulling it tight. He could move around all right, his extremities still working, but he couldn’t move quickly.

After a few minutes of standing around and making sure he wouldn’t fall over, Mickie climbed over to where he last saw the gringo, but instead of finding their prisoner, he found Enrique on the ground, dead.

Mickie had already looked for Dean and found him dead by the rock outcropping. The gringo had killed both of his friends. Men he had known since he was a child. They had grown up together.

The anger coursing through his veins was unlike any he’d ever known. But the only thing that mattered now was finding the bastard and making him suffer. He was the only person who could do that. He was C-Money’s best tracker. And when he saw Charlie, he would make the man suffer just as much as he had done to him.
